Building an Environment for Demonstrating Lync 2013

Mobile technology such as laptops, tablets and phones has increased demand for more unified communications solutions. Enter Microsoft Lync 2013. In an effort to increase my understanding of the platform, as well as the infrastructure that is required to support it, I’ve decided to build out a demo environment geared toward demonstrating Lync 2013 and some of it’s capabilities. This is the beginning of a _____ (Enter # of parts here) part series that will take us through installation of the components required for a Standard Lync Server 2013 installation and environment. This will include steps for:

  1. Configuring VMs with Microsoft Server 2012r2 as the base Operating system for Active Directory, DHCP, DNS and the supporting roles for a domain environment.
  2. Configuring Microsoft SQL Server 2012 to be a backend database for Microsoft Lync Server 2013.
  3. Configuring Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 standard to integrate presence and show Microsoft Lync Server 2013 integration capabilities.

I will do my best to document the steps taken as I follow recommended practices from Microsoft. I hope you stay tuned as this series develops!
